Our parish has started a new emphasis on youth fellowship: Sunday evening Mass followed by supper. What a joy it is to cook large meals again! When the wee chicks flee the nest, those of us with strong motherly instincts still want to help our Church's Future: our youth.
Cooking is neither chore nor toil in my world. Tis a pleasure; a guilty one if the strictures of medical conditions indigenous to old age limit the diet. In the youth group suppers I have found an outlet for my avocation without the guilt of too many pounds, too much cholesterol, too much starch, ad nauseam. Once again the aromas fill our home with onions sauteed in real butter; loaves of bread baking in the oven; slow simmered sauces and soups made with real cream; and spices, oi those spices awaken the nose to exotic places on the other side of the globe. If truth be known, I would enjoy cooking much more than I do now but age and energy limit that outlet. Thy Will be done.
At last we are cooling off though the temps are still in the 90s. We get a wee sprinkle every now and again but not enough to break the drought. Lord, our prayers ascend for rain.
That's me away.

But I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing, direct murder by the mother herself."

My husband worked with the Catholic youth group at his parish when we were in Oklahoma. He loved it! He still talks fondly of it and hopes to work with teens again in the near future.
There are Catholic churches here in Germany of course but hubby doesn't know German so he can't go, but there is a Catholic service offered on base and hubby is just miserbale there...LOL. That's why he hasn't been out in like 2 months. I don't know if you've ever been to a church service on an Army base but it is quite sad. Plus everyone keeps to themselves, nobody wants to to associate with you...
I invite hubby to come to church with me all the time but he refuses of course.
Oh well..
Blessings!
I wish I could cook like that, real ingredients, real food, none of this artificial junk that I have to buy because $.50 for a loaf of bread is cheaper than making it myself. *sigh* The Lord will provide, either by giving us more money for groceries or by my learning how to cook and bake more frugally.
God Bless!
Whoa...your blog print is TINY! I can't read it! Hmmm.
Can you see it now?
Dawn, no matter how it is celebrated the Mass is still the centre of Catholicism. Just as his body wouldn't be healthy eating only once a in a while his soul needs the Food of the Eucharist.
I will keep him in my prayers.
Indeed, the Mass is often the only quiet time with Jesus that people can get. I imagine that in the Army chapel, tis a place of quiet refuge from having to follow orders, network, etc.
The Mass is a good place to sit and pray quietly with Jesus and to listen to the liturgy which emphasizes Scripture as well. Jesus went into the desert for quiet time too. Tis part and parcel of the balance needed in the mature spiritual life.
