Mother Seton

Today is the feastday of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, an American saint who is credited with founding America's parochial schools. I have always been partial to her title Mother Seton as she was a widow with children, a convert, and subsequently a teacher who became a mother to countless others. Let us spend a few wee moments thinking on her dedication and sacrifices to serve our Lord. Mother Seton loved the Bible and loved simplicity: it is my own opinion that she too, was a Plain Catholic.

Today's Grace Lines provides a good meditation.

Feast of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
(1774 - 1821)

"Live simply, so that all may simply live."
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton

For Reflection:
Today, I will do an examination of conscience according to this quote and ask myself these questions: "What two virtues are implicit in this quote?"
"To what extent has a consumerist mentality prevented me from living these virtues?"
"What positive steps can I take, beginning today, to remedy this situation?"

Thank you for coming over to visit today, and for your prayers for Emma, Kate, their mommy and the rest of us!

I was interested in your article about Elizabeth Ann Seton because one of the Catholic churches in Fort Collins, CO, where I work, is named after her. I always wondered about her.

Matthew 5:16 So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
