Balance

Balance: tis a goal we must all seek to acquire to maintain a healthy spiritual life as well as our physical and emotional health. The Rule of St. Benedict emphasizes balance between work and prayer, ora et labora. Plain Catholics who are inspired by the RB seek this as well. For a Plain Catholic family, shoveling manure is as much a part of the life as praying the Hours. Our prayers may be said in the house or out in the field. As such, we sort our day according to needs of both farm and family. Yet we always, always make time for prayer as God is our Family, Our Father, our Life.

In a world gone barking with incessant manipulation to buy the latest product or to follow the latest trend, we turn toward God and away from excess. Just as the bees have a season to make honey and a season to rest, we too have times for work and prayer. Plain Catholics are self-starters: we do not await a time to "feel like it". Tis a life of self-discipline, initiative and trust in God for the outcome. Tis not a life in the herd of popular culture.

So we plan, prepare, parse and pray. May all have a bright and blessed New Year. That's me away.

That nagging feeling that everything is out of place, that no matter what we do that it's not enough, spinning wheels and getting nowhere fast? Out of balance. The Holy Spirit is nudging to sort out in order to become balanced. Heed the call, I say. It's more than worth it. It's our Lord Jesus Christ trying to be number One just where He needs to be. Amen to your beautiful blog.

I really am enjoying your blog. I was not aware that there were plain Catholics, it is nice to know I am not the only one. I buy all of my dresses from an amish store. I am hoping to get back to being at home so that I can make them and tend to our farm. I have a ton of questions about beekeeping, if you wouldn't mind chatting sometime. Well, thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a blessed New Year.

Balance, not so difficult if we keep it simple and offer all our daily actions to our Lord. Great post!
