Stormy Weather

Our stormy spring is bringing us much needed rain this year for which the gardens are glad.

Sometimes the storms are fierce and bring the anxiety of tornados. It reminds me of Matthew 14 with the disciples in the boat tossed on the waves; and the anxiety of our own era in which all seems topsy turvy in our culture. We may feel abandoned, alone in the tempest yet Jesus reaches out His hand... all we need is faith to walk the tempest with Him.

God does not abandon us; we abandon Him through lack of faith. If we are honest with ourselves, we are often like St. Peter who became frightened; we quickly forget there is a greater God than a mere storm of the times. The answer to this fear is in the prayer of the boy's father in Mark 9
23 Jesus said to him, " 'If you can!' Everything is possible to one who has faith."
24
Then the boy's father cried out, "I do believe, help my unbelief!"
That's me away then. Fear not but believe.

I always try to remember that sometimes God calms the storm and sometimes He calms His child. This can be hard because I think most of us much prefer the storm to be calmed and quieted rather than having to go through it and learn to be calm.
