Anger

As Plain Catholics we pray, work and trust to God's Holy Will. There are times we do become angry and this is normal. Injustice is one reason. Moments of fatigue and weakness are another. However we try to forgive and learn from the experience to walk more closely to Jesus. We pull ourselves away from the anger that is often caused by pride or some other besetting notion.

Ephesians 4:25-27 (RSVCE) states:

²⁵ Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. ²⁶ Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, ²⁷ and give no opportunity to the devil. 

"Do not let the sun go down on your anger" is often forgotten in these days of bad news flooding through our door via media. We meet people with an abiding anger that never relents, who seethe and boil over at every new piece of news that offends them. Leaping to conclusions based upon scanty and/or one-sided information from the media or from gossip feeds the demon of anger.

At some point the person becomes his anger. To have an attitude of gratitude for the blessings one has is a most potent antidote to the poisonous anger that engulfs and destroys one's soul. Remember that old adage: Holding a grudge is akin to swallowing poison and waiting for the other person to die.

We encourage all to lay down that anger and to seek the peace of Christ through confession, forgiveness, and the daily resolve to see God's Holy Will in one's life by being still and waiting patiently for Him.  

Psalm 37:7-9 (RSVCE)

⁷ Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;
    fret not yourself over him who prospers in his way,
    over the man who carries out evil devices!

⁸ Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
    Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
⁹ For the wicked shall be cut off;
    but those who wait for the Lord shall possess the land.
