Today is the tenth anniversary for Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta passing on to her Beloved. One of my favorites of her quotes is:
We can do no great things - only small things with great love.
I have to say that in her own way, Bld. Teresa was a Plain Catholic. No grand gestures; rather a theology of small sacrifices and persistence.
She also said:
God didn't ask me to be successful. He asked me to be faithful.
It seems she was a gardener too, albeit a gardener of souls. At the very least this should be the motto of every farmer and gardener. Farming and gardening require persistence, faithfulness aye and, love. Love for our God who created the wonderful world of nature about us. Love for our families as we try to feed them healthy food.
The past 5 days have been taken up with the gardening chores. Clearing out the old plants; harvesting the last bits of veg; tilling and conditioning the soil to receive a new crop for the fall harvest. Kale and collards do well when kissed by frost and prayerfully we will have a bumper crop this year. The asparagus is weeded and watered. The squash is reaching its prime. We continue to pray for a long, steady rain as nonesuch has reached us in a month.
May Bld Teresa of Calcutta be a light and a guide for all those who wish to follow Jesus.
That's me away then.
Living our faith in plain and humble service to Jesus, Our Lord and Savior ... ORA ET LABORA +++ Sentire cum Ecclesia (to think and to feel with the Church)
Rejoice in hope; endure in affliction; persevere in prayer. Romans 12:12
Prayer joined to sacrifice constitutes the most powerful force in human history.
St. John Paul II
I have a mustard seed; and I am not afraid to use it. (Habeo granum sinapis quod uti non timeo)
Pope Benedict XVI
But I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing, direct murder by the mother herself."
St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta
